Sami Bracelet - Seneva
$55.00
The Sami people, previously known as Lapps or Laplanders, are the indigenous people of far northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula of Russia. Their traditional way of life was a nomadic one following the reindeer herds similar to Native Americans and the buffalo. Even today reindeer herding is reserved only for the Sami people in certain regions of the Nordic countries.
Sami jewelry and design features inspiration and materials from their native lands. The handicraft called tenntrådsbroderier, is pewter thread jewelry using very fine pewter wire wound around cotton thread, reindeer leather, and reindeer buttons. In the traditional designs, each piece of pewter thread jewelry tells a story about the Sami people.
